Education in the Firing Squad

The fact that our Education has for decades become a ball in the hands of the ruling party and minister does not require much analysis. Nor did you have to read this column to conclude the extent of the spiritual castration that the morbid management of the educational issue by the post-cultural establishment has brought to an entire generation of Greeks.

The instructions were clear: to create a rotten education system that will transmit exclusively technocratic knowledge and replace Classical Education with the dominant ideological propaganda of world-class priesthoods (inside and outside Greece). Mass production of “bricks” has been the primary objective of all A-education ministries, and this was certainly the greatest success of the post-civilian governments, despite disagreements between them.

From the abolition of the government-clean Ralli and the abolition of the polytonic on PASOK, to the rape of Greek history in the new textbooks…

and the complete dissolution of higher education on Karamanlis the younger one, the post-civilian prisoners proved in the most prominent way that Education, in fact, is a very serious issue to be left in the hands of every casual servant of power…

What we have experienced over the past few weeks on the occasion of the educational mobilizations has simply come to confirm that the word ‘mess’, in this case, is too simple to describe the true situation in the field of Higher Education. From nurseries of Marxism and Anthellenicism, Greek universities have turned into “ring” conflicts between the factions. The democratic bullying and the complete domination of party rule in all their tragic grandeur!

Not that things were better before. Then, in the “days of peace”, students and teachers were trained for many years in the daily misery of classrooms with garbage, broken windows, torn curtains, anarchist-left profanity and posters on the walls. How many and how many generations of professors and students have not lived like this, how many and how many passing and permanent have not come to terms with the entrenched image of university spaces as stinking and miserable far-left terror?

Thousands of teachers and students have for years adopted the ideology that broken seats, flooded toilets, the robbery of microphone installations and computers, and the transformation of educational institutions into anarchist hooded tsiflies do not prevent the acquisition of “critical knowledge”. Not walling unsightly posters in classrooms is neoliberal. And not filling the floors with cigarette butts is fascism. Well, so many children are starving here in Africa, are we going to deal with this now?

Dirt and misery… This is the way of life and the ideology of the food of Asylum, called the Greek University… Some of them are teachers in the process of leaving. We wish them to take with them the kinetic memories of the destroyed amphitheatres and the arrested offices and with them to live the years of retirement. Of course, don’t wait until they leave to allow the slightest change. Anyone who asks them for change is like asking them to give up their lives – to admit that they mismanaged it. Better, if there was a mistake, to be buried under the ruins of the university. Maybe then it’ll never come out. And then Education may have accepted the gift shot six steps ago, but we, the “democratic” and “unmebable” foremen of parliamentary and academic immunity, will wash our hands, pretending to be the knowable and the “well-wishers”…

Otherwise, some still believe that any cancer is cured with aspirin…
